The National Launch is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet some of Stages’ closest supporters and the creative powerhouses behind Plumshuga, including playwright Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, choreographer Stanton Welch, and Lauren Anderson herself.
Upon arrival, guests will walk down the Pink Carpet to enter this spectacular premiere. There will be a pre-show reception with passed heavy hors d’oeuvres and a selection of beverages including wine, beer, specialty cocktails, and soft drinks. The play is deeply rooted in Houston, so the food will be inspired by favorite Houston dishes.
After the show, there will be desserts and a toast to the artists, who will join the festivities once they’ve changed out of costumes and makeup.

A world premiere like this requires a monumental investment from Stages and a lot of financial support—YOU CAN BE PART OF MAKING THAT HAPPEN! Your ticket purchase or donation directly supports Stages’ investment in Plumshuga, Houston artists and Houston stories.
This investment pays dividends for our community and beyond as we collaborate with other Houston arts organizations, engage both local and national artists, and above all, provide the resources and platform to create and share this incredible Houston story with the world.
The artists who are coming together to tell this unique story about Lauren Anderson are world-class: Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton was Houston’s first Black Poet Laureate. Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch and Urban Souls Contemporary Dance Artistic Director Harrison Guy will choreograph dancers from Houston Ballet. Up-and-coming composer Jasmine Barnes is writing original music. Broadway alumna and Stages favorite DeQuina Moore will star as Lauren Anderson. And Stages Inclusion, Engagement, and Training Director Eboni Bell Darcy will co-direct the production with Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton herself.
When you purchase a ticket to the National Launch, you are supporting this new show and helping make possible a life for it beyond Houston and Stages. Our goal is for this amazing performance experience to shine a national spotlight on Houston’s art and artists, and on Stages’ commitment to nurturing local artists and new work.
