Christina Anderson’s story of the struggle to integrate a public swimming pool is a riveting drama.

Imagine spending many hours swimming at your local pool and having that time to learn not only an important and lifesaving skill, but also how to enjoy the water, bond with a parent, and participate in something positive in your community. Sounds idyllic, right?

But then it is taken away because you are not the right race. When a tragedy along with the powers that be converge to create their own rippling effects that wash away experiences that are deeply personal and important to a family in the 1950s and 60s, the results are as hard as the concrete at the bottom of an empty pool.
