Stages opened June 9th with a staged reading of scenes from five plays by MacArthur Fellow and Tony Award winning playwright Dominique Morisseau, who wrote the acclaimed play “Skeleton Crew” as part of her Detroit cycle of plays. Stages introduced the audience to “Mud Row,” which they will present in October as part of their new season.
Stages is also hosting the closing night party for artists. He said that although the festival is “a celebration of African-American artists in Houston, it is for all of Houston, and the artists who are creating a community coming together, and the art is very good. It allows African-American artists to grow, learn, and develop their craft, and take it to the highest stages of American theater.”
