Overview

Finding strength in the questions we ask

Based on the bestselling book by Cheryl Strayed and adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Tiny Beautiful Things personifies the questions and answers that “Sugar” published online from 2010-2012. When the struggling writer was asked to take over the unpaid, anonymous position of advice columnist, Strayed used empathy and her personal experiences to help those seeking guidance for obstacles both large and small. Tiny Beautiful Things is a play about reaching when you’re stuck, healing when you’re broken, and finding the courage to take on the questions that have no answers.

Good to Know

Rated R

Advice columnist “Sugar” offers compassionate guidance to her readers even while navigating her own private struggles. Those that write to Sugar bring her their issues of love, loss, and loneliness that include mature themes including death, suicide, child abuse, and assault while making use of some adult language. As Sugar shares her own complicated past, her advice reveals to us beauty despite life’s brokenness, community in the face of loneliness, light amidst the darkness, and the incredible power of hope.
