Easily understood in English and Spanish, this bilingual stage-adaptation of Cinderella tackles culture, familia, and the power of language. When Belinda is locked in the family basement with instructions to prepare for the party upstairs, she uses her imagination and considerable sense of self to re-enact the story of Cinderella through Object Theater (Puppetry with everyday objects). She makes discoveries about her own capacity and self worth as a person, an artist, and a member of her familia.
CAROLINE RECK (Director and Playwright) is a Director, Puppeteer, and Playwright, and the Artistic Director of Glass Half Full Theatre, known for “Pixar-esque” visual storytelling through innovative puppetry forms, detailed physical theater narratives, and multi-lingual performances. Raised in the Los Angeles area, Caroline learned Spanish from friends and on el campo de fútbol, and later studied both theater and Spanish in college. She is a graduate of the Lecoq school for physical theater in France, and has taught puppetry and movement theater workshops across the US, France, Poland, and The Dominican Republic over the last 15 years. Caroline co-wrote, directed, and designed the puppetry for Cenicienta: A Bilingual Cinderella Story, which will be presented at Sin Fronteras. She is working on an original bilingual play that blends the imaginary dangers of El Cucuy with the very real threat from immigration authorities faced by Latino immigrants in Austin, Texas, where she makes her home.
